Amped Technology Workforce Development Training

The training needed to launch a career in Information Technology (IT)

Amped is offering an 18-week paid training program that leads to industry-recognized certifications and prepares participants for entry-level jobs in IT with competitive pay and strong growth potential. Students can earn up to $8,100 for this experience.

Our program is for Louisville residents age 18 or older who want to start a career in IT Support. Priority participation will be given to low-income residents from low-income zip codes in Jefferson County which especially include 40202, 40203, 40208, 40209, 40210, 40211, 40212, 40215, and 40216 as well as portions of 40213, 40218, and 40219. Give Yourself A Headstart!

If you’re interested in participating, but aren’t yet ready for the rigor of this program, we encourage you to access online courses at www.coursera.org This site has over 294 courses you can do at your own pace. We recommend you take any CompTIA A+ course.

HOW IT WORKS

There is a 3-part application process:

  1. Attend one in-person interest session and complete an IT assessment
  2. Complete an online application
  3. Sign up for interview with staff

Amped staff select up to 25 applicants for next cohort

Two weeks of a part-time evening program. In-person 2 nights and at-home sessions the other days

Complete IT Fundamentals. Successful completion of pre-work allows you to begin immersive training and receive a passing bonus

Twelve weeks of full-time, paid, in-person training from 10am-4pm

Complete the CompTIA A+ Certification, the industry standard for launching careers in IT

Receive bonuses for passing both exams that make-up this certification

Develop a personalized work plan with Amped staff to prepare you to apply and interview for entry-level jobs in IT

Receive a hiring bonus after 30 days of employment in a qualified job

Application Process

  1. Timeframe and Dates:

During the month of July 2025 Interest Sessions are held:

  • July 21st, 6pm
  • July 22nd, 6pm
  • July 23rd, noon
  • July 24th, noon

Applications are due by 11:59pm on August 1.

2. Format:

In-person interest sessions followed by online submission of application materials

3. What Happens In This Time Period?

Individuals interested in joining the next cohort will complete a 3-part application process.

Part 1: They attend one of the in-person interest sessions where they will learn about the program and complete an IT assessment to gauge their foundational technical understanding.
Part 2: After orientation and review of assessment, students will be emailed a link to sign up for an interview with the IT Staff.
Part 3: Upon completion of interviews, Amped staff will review and invite eligible students into the program. Students selected will complete the formal application.

After applications are submitted, Amped staff will review and invite eligible students to begin the pre-work sessions.

4. Incentive Opportunity

Students who successfully complete this application process will be invited to begin the Pre-Work Training.

IT Jump Start

1. Timeframe & Dates:

Two weeks, Aug 11-21, 2025

2. Format:

Part-time evening classes, in-person Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm; Online/at-home lessons and homework assigned on days that class is not held in-person

3. What Happens In This Time Period?

This two-week, part-time evening program is designed for adults who are new to computers and want to build the confidence and foundational knowledge needed to succeed in the IT field. Our hands-on, instructor-led sessions, additional guided lessons and activities from home on your own schedule will cover the basics — from using a computer to understanding how technology fits into everyday life and modern careers.

4. Incentive Opportunity:

Students who complete and pass the pre-work computer assessment will earn a spot in our full 12-week A+ Certification Training Program, designed to prepare you for a career in IT support — and you’ll be eligible for a $350 stipend.

Immersive Training

1. Timeframe & Dates:

12 weeks, August 25 – November 14, 2025

2. Format:

Full-time daytime classes, in-person, Monday – Friday, 10am-4pm, with optional office hours available from 9-10am and 4-5pm

3. What Happens In This Time Period?

Students work full-time with the Amped team to learn and pass the CompTIA A+ Certification. This is the industry standard for launching IT careers and consists of two exams – 1201 focusing on hardware, networking, and virtualization, and 1202 covers operating systems, security, and software. Students who pass both exams receive the CompTIA A+ certification.

4. Incentive Opportunity:

Students are paid $15/hour with a max of $450/week or $5,400 for the 12-week period. Attendance is strictly enforced – students are not paid when they are absent and absences above a threshold can cause students to be removed from the program.

Students also receive a $350 bonus when they pass the 1201 exam, and a $750 bonus when they pass 1202.

Post-Training/Job Placement Support

1. Timeframe & Dates:

4 weeks, November 17 – December 12, 2025

2. Format:

Scheduled in-person appointments with Amped staff. The amount of time and frequency of appointments will vary by student

3. What Happens In This Time Period?

Students will develop a personalized work plan that prepares the individual to apply and interview for jobs in IT. Depending on a student’s needs and interests, the amount of time spent during this period will vary, but the goal is to prepare each student to find and receive an entry-level job in IT.

4. Incentive Opportunity:

Students who receive a qualified professional or technical job will receive a hiring bonus of $1,500 after their first 30 days of employment.
